ADL

Advanced Distributed Learning. The ADL Initiative is a leading standards group and developer and implementer of learning technologies across the Department of Defense (DoD) in the USA. Although funded by the DoD, ADL works closely with other strandards groups and e-learning developers, and also includes International partners through the ADL Co-Lab Network. ADL maintains the SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) 2004 standard for exchanging educational digital resources.

CETIS

Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Standards. CETIS advises Universities and Colleges on the strategic, technical and pedagogic implications of educational technology standards. It represents UK Higher and Further Education on international educational standards and speciofications initiatives including the IMS Global Learning Consortium, CEN/ISSS, and the IEEE LTSC.

CORBA

Common Object Request Broker Architecture.CORBA is a standard for developing and deploying software components, and for dustributed computing more generally. CORBA defines APIs, communication protocols, and object/service information models that enable applications written in various languages running on various platforms to interoperate. The role of CORBA in enterprise computing has been largely superceeded by Web Services. CORBA is maintained by the Object Management Group (OMG).

DEST

Department of Education, Science, and Training (Australia). DEST provides national leadership and works in collaboration with the States and Territories, industry, other agencies and the community in support of the Government’s objectives. It develops and implements policies to ensure the continuing relevance of education, science and training to contemporary needs and the growing requirement for lifelong learning.

HTTP

Hypertext Transfer Protocol. HTTP is a protocol used to transfer or convey information on the World Wide Web. Its original purpose was to provide a way to publish and retrieve HTML pages.

ICT

Information and Communications Technology.
