Ian Dolphin assumed the newly created position of International Director of the e-Framework on 14 July 2008. Prior to his appointment, Ian was Head of e-Strategy at the University of Hull, UK, where he was responsible for advising on Information & Communications Technology strategic direction.
"It's an exciting time to be joining the International e-Framework team," Ian said. "We're addressing problems through international collaboration which it would not be possible to address alone. ICT systems in the service of education need to be flexible and interoperable. The e-Framework aims to provide information that will enable institutions to make the most of the investments they make."
The new International Director will be visiting each of the four e-Framework Partners to learn more about their individual programmes and activities, and establish a distinct international programme. His appointment marks a continued commitment from the two-year old international partnership to collaborate in the service of education and research.
Ian Dolphin has presented extensively on work exploring the relationship between portals, learning objects, and learning and research environments. He has been active in a number of national and international collaborations that focus on these areas. He was a member of the Board of Directors and served as Vice-President of JASIG, the open-source software foundation that supports the popular uPortal portal framework, from 2003-2008. He has also served as a member of the Board of the Sakai Foundation and the Advisory Board of the Curriki Foundation.
