e-Framework Partner Interests, Activities and Project Links

DEEWR (Australia)

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) is the lead government agency providing national leadership in education and workplace training, transition to work, and conditions and values in the workplace.

DEEWR works in collaboration with the states and territories and has offices and agencies throughout Australia and overseas allowing an active, national and client-focused approach.

DEEWR is committed to providing easy and informative access to its services and support programs and works directly with their clients and stakeholders to ensure expectations are met.

Objectives

The Department is accountable to the Australian Government, Parliament and to the public. DEEWR's objectives are:

  • To educate and build socially inclusive communities where all Australians have the opportunity to reach their full potential and to actively participate in a rewarding economic and social life.
  • To build and promote individual development through equitable and accessible education from early childhood services to skills training and higher education.
  • To increase workforce participation and promote fair and productive work practices.
  • To develop national economic potential and capability that builds future economic prosperity and international competitiveness through skills development and employment growth.
  • To actively engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure services, advice and resources respond to the needs of these groups.
  • To look for efficiencies and innovative, targeted and effective solutions in developing national economic potential.

DEEWR's engagement with the e-Framework is managed by Link Affiliates. Link Affiliates is funded by DEEWR to provide services to support Australia's engagement in e-learning and e-research standards development.


JISC Projects (UK)

Joint Information Systems Committee JISC provides a world-class infrastructure ensuring that UK education and research is well equipped to exploit the full potential of information technologies. Meeting such a challenge is made possible by joining forces with organisations that define JISC services, research and development programmes. JISC look to these partnerships to broaden their value to the comunity through quality work.

Ministry of Education (New Zealand)

Education Sector Architecture Framework (ESAF):

Aims to deliver interoperability across the New Zealand education sector through the ability to:

  • share a common understanding of data and information
  • transfer information based on business rules
  • identify yourself
  • authorise access to services and information
  • locate services and information within the sector

ESAF projects:

    • Education Sector Data Model (ESDM)
    Defines a common framework for shared education sector data as the basis for data collection and exchange.
    • Education Sector Metadata Schema (ESMS)
    Enables a common understanding of education related electronic information.
    • Education Sector Integration Services (ESIS)
    Provides a set of common services to support interoperability between New Zealand education sector organisations and systems.
    • Education Sector Authentication & Authorisation (ESAA)
    Provides a single sign-on service to access all relevant New Zealand education sector services and systems.
    • Education Sector Federated Search (ESFS)
    Provides a search brokerage service which connects to key New Zealand & international electronic catalogues; i.e. a single point of access to education related information.

ESAF projects are developed and implemented jointly across the six New Zealand education government agencies and the National Library of New Zealand.

The ESAF projects – ESAA and ESIS – have been identified as two ways which New Zealand can contribute to the development of the e-Framework for Education and Research.  Service Usage Models (SUMs) are being developed based on ESAA and ESIS processes which can be applied to the administration component of the e-Framework.

SURF (The Netherlands)

SURF is the higher education and research partnership organisation for network services and information and communications technology (ICT).

Current projects include:

  • Working on setting up an ‘ICT Suppliers SOA Strategies’ conference around mid-April 07 to consider those suppliers that work with SOA.
  • Starting work on a SOA roadmap using a questionnaire for educational institutions.
  • Getting a higher level of knowledge sharing within the educational sector. A ‘Higher Education SOA Best Practices’ day is one of these initiatives
